This Summer, This Time

It’s feeling like a true summer with welcoming hugs among family and friends. It’s also time to recharge so we’re ready to tackle lingering COVID-19 realities and the big issues Canada faces.

It’s starting to feel a lot like summer, a true summer with welcoming hugs among family and friends. You can almost feel a huge collective sigh of relief that we have hopefully turned the page in the COVID-19 story. It’s time to appreciate, celebrate, and recharge so that we’re ready to tackle lingering pandemic realities and the big issues Canada faces.

Two years ago, our parent company, Franklin Templeton launched the theme “Reach for Better.” Three words that anchor what we strive for in everything we do. This includes a commitment to practising all forms of diversity and inclusion in our workplace and beyond. For example, we know the journey of truth and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples is far from over. All of us can respond to the call to action to face the truth and advance the process of reconciliation in Canada. We can all do our part to create a more just, accountable, and inclusive society.

I believe there are basic tools that will help make progress. Tools such as listening with open eyes, sharing information, asking questions without fear of judgement, growing knowledge, and demonstrating mutual respect. These fundamentals underpin how we work with clients, building relationships that last over lifetimes.

We put such tools to work on the pages of Perspective. We know people are questioning the value of fixed income assets in their portfolios. Scott Guitard responds with Staying Active With Bonds. Blockchain technology is about far more than cryptocurrencies. In our RoundTable, Stephen Dover and Giles Marshall discuss why investors should care about the coming change blockchain represents. Read The Blockchain Investment Link. In Trust Myths Up Close, Thomas Junkin highlights the truth that’s sometimes lost in the popular news mix. These are just some of the stories to explore in this edition.

As summer unfolds, perhaps the Roman poet Horace put it best: Carpe diem or “seize the day” to celebrate the joy of life and start making change for a better Canada for all.

Be well. We are here whenever you need us.
